veritas – Civic Education on Conspiracy Narratives

Certified further education as a multiplier in youth (social) work and adult education on conspiracy narratives

Advanced training in six modules from September 2021 to May 2022

Conspiracy narratives have probably always existed. But especially since the beginning of the Corona pandemic, we are faced with major social challenges around conspiracy narratives. Also social workers and adult educators are repeatedly confronted with conspiracy narratives in their work. Therefore veritas offers a certification course on dealing with conspiracy narratives for educational professionals. Participants will learn about the history of conspiracies, their psychological impact, and links to gender, anti-semitism, violence, and health.

Pedagogical tools for dealing with conspiracy narratives

Additionally, participants will get to know pedagogical tools and methods as well as approaches in counseling and dealing with adherents of conspiracy narratives or their relatives. A further focus of the training lies on networked learning, collegial exchange and reflection on one's own attitude towards the topic. The training is designed to be practice-oriented and participation can be certified by the German Bundeszentrale für politische Bildung. This will take place in the last module of the training. To ensure the quality of the certification course, the course will be externally evaluated. By participating in the course, you agree to participate in the evaluation too.

Content of the training

- History of conspiracy narratives and theories
- Social psychological effects of conspiracy narratives
- In-depth study of health, extremism, violence, anti-semitism, anti-feminism and gender, as well as politics and the media
- Pedagogical ways of dealing with conspiracy narratives and narrators
- Questions about child well-being in the context of conspiracy narratives
- Presentation, testing and reflection of methods
- Self-reflection and further development of professional attitude
- Collegial exchange and networking

Working methods

We strive for an appreciative and error-friendly working atmosphere in which there’s room for questions and uncertainties. A critical attitude towards discrimination is equally important to us. The goal of the training is a content-related as well as methodical examination of conspiracy narratives. We work with a combination of inputs, group work and various (analog and digital) methods. In addition, it is important to us to link up with the respective work experiences of the participants.
