Summer School 2021
Civic education and prevention of right-wing extremism
Online event series in September 2021
In 2021, the Summer School with its focus on right-wing extremism prevention and educational work once again took place online. For four days in September, we turned our seminar room into a studio and, together with 40 participants from all over Germany and Austria as well as 15 speakers, we continued our education, networked and exchanged ideas on the prevention of right-wing extremism in childhood, youth and adulthood. Many thanks to all participants and speakers for their contributions and the constructive exchange!
From childhood ...
On September 15, the Summer School began with lectures by Prof. Dr. Dierk Borstel and Prof. Dr. Julika Bürgin on right-wing radicalization and the role of political education in youth work. On September 16, the focus was then on childhood: The introductory lecture focused on legal principles in dealing with right-wing extremist families. The afternoon workshops focused on prejudice-conscious education in early childhood education and the impact of ideologies of inequality on child well-being.
... until adulthood
September 29 was all about youth: in the morning we looked at the relevance of extreme right discourses for youth work. The afternoon workshops were dedicated to the work with boys* and the pedagogical handling of group-related misanthropy in youth work. On September 30, the focus was on adulthood: After the introductory lecture on antifeminism, the workshops dealt with völkische Siedler*innen, dealing with conspiracy mentalities, as well as adultism.

Further education for pedagogical experts and multipliers
The event was aimed at pedagogical professionals and multipliers from youth (social) work and political education who are active in the prevention of right-wing extremism/working on phenomena of group-based hostility. In addition to the transfer of knowledge in the workshops, one focus of the event was on the participants getting to know each other, the exchange and networking.
